Karama Lodge, TanzaniaActivities at Karama Lodge

Karama Lodge & SPA has organized holistic and healing days for massage workshops, reiki courses, introductions on various themes (healthy living, healthy food and reflexology), yoga-classes, sweat tent. Please contact us for more information on the dates of these events.

To make your stay more relaxing and enjoyable, Karama organizes a selection of activities for you to choose from...

1. Bird watching...
The garden of Karama Lodge & SPA is home to many different species of birds. Equipped with our binoculars and bird books, you can watch them while walking in the garden, sitting on the veranda of your cabin or from the main deck.

2. Exploring the area...
Just above 'Karama' is Suye Hill Forest Reserve - a protected area of indigenous forest. You can take a short walk to the top of Suye Hill through the forest reserve and further down to Kimandolu village, looking for birds in their natural environment and monkeys leaping from tree to tree.
We are pleased to say that 'Karama' actively assists in the protection of this forest reserve ensuring that this natural beauty is around for years to come.

3. Daytrip to the Waterfall...
Our professional guide who is very knowledgeable about flora and fauna in Tanzania will lead you to a beautiful waterfall in Olgilai, about 15 km from the lodge. You will walk through local villages and beautiful surroundings. At the waterfall you can enjoy a picnic lunch from the Karama kitchen, have a shower or go for a swim.

4. A relaxing massage...
After a safari, a mountain climb, a tiring flight or just for your own relaxation, our professional masseuse will treat you to an unwinding massage.

5. Visit to the Arusha Children's Trust Community Project
If you book a safari with Tropical Trails / Wilderness Trails or a room in Karama Lodge, a percentage goes to the Arusha Children's Trust, a recognized NGO (non-government organization) registered in Tanzania and Guernsey (UK). The trust aims to help children in the Arusha and Rift Valley regions of Northern Tanzania primarily with education, health and environmental awareness.
There is an option to visit the community centre. For more information please contact the Arusha Children's Trust homepage.

6. Safaris and Mountain climbing
If you are interested in booking a safari or a mountain trek our sister company Tropical Trails will assist you.
'Karama' is a Kiswahili word which means an honour, a privilege, generous behaviour, a blessing and the word for ‘something to share’. That is what we wish to achieve.
Karama is a member of hotels in Tanzania, which represents a group of small off-the-beaten-track mid-market lodges in the North-East of Tanzania. The lodges have their own distinct character and style. Their owners and staff share a passion for ecologically sound and socially responsible development in cooperation with the communities that host them.
